Subject: Social Work action during the COVID-19 epidemic

Dear colleagues,

In the light of the current situation revolving around the Corona Virus (COVID – 19) outbreak it is imperative to focus on the well being of the general population and mostly, the vulnerable groups. In a time of distress and turmoil it is crucial to respond to this issues and stand united as social work is a value based profession and as we have previously established at our joint conferences, those values transcend any physical and political boundaries. A discussion regarding the emergency response has to be rekindled to avoid both the stress of the virus epidemic and the social issues that continue to amplify the stress of this situation. This email is a call for action to all social work associations to elaborate on their local best practices and provide national and regional recommendations in fighting this epidemic through social work values and skills. It is crucial to share our knowledge and expertise among ourselves and with other organization to emphasize the social workers’ role in epidemic response and community management during crisis periods. You are encouraged to write as many recommendations as possible fit for national and international action, your expertise and input is valued and will be used to its best capability to save and protect human life, dignity and worth. Do not hesitate to write about the situation in your own country and how social workers in particular are facing this issue.
